A naked white body hanging in the void…with water dripping and penetrating its skin like a Japanese torture … washing everything away … revealing its true nature … waiting to be loved… with only the sound of dripping water and an audience walking through it, becoming one with this boy …
This Boy Needs Love is an endurance performance/installation that investigates and questions the paradox of aesthetics and pain in the search for a new beauty. The duration of this piece depends on the physical endurance of the performer’s body at the time.
About Niko Raes
My practice is a research into the contradiction between pain and beauty, or rather put the paradox. In this study, I would like the roughness and authenticity of suffering and pain in performance art merge with the visual framework and refinement of visual arts and performing arts. A presence of pain and suffering in the context of representation. It is the clash between the attendance and representation that creates friction. Order to create a new beauty while questioning this same beauty.
