In this new performance commissioned by Tempting Failure 2018 Weeks & Whitford will continue their autobiographical approach and ritualize a response to a recent period of illness, mourning, estrangement and survival that has pushed them to their limits.
Asserting life and love with its many difficulties, kinks and complications over grief,
disability, addiction, and fear this complex durational work reflects an ongoing process of disintegration, renewal and transformation. The work is a rite or a prayer because, at points, performance is all we have.
About Weeks & Whitford
“Apparent emptiness, desire of flesh and despair always present. Lights that switch on, the feast of abandonment where love and suffering melt to become one and relive all that is possible. This is a space of iconoclastic hot trash. This is the home of Weeks & Whitford.” - Andrea Pagnes, Co-Curator Venice International Performance Week
Weeks & Whitford make complex psychologically, emotionally and physically intense autobiographical participatory durational performances involving installations, soundscapes, and choreographies of interrelated actions. They conjure dystopias and utopias in order to perform processes of transition or transformation. They address specific issues and challenges that become aestheticised as part of a highly personal, revelatory on-going narrative.
Their work has addressed alcoholism, cross-dressing, BDSM, childlessness, ageing, disability, labour, love, sex, gender, jealousy, infidelity, sin and repentance, despair, hope, faith, ritual, healing and magic.
